Dakar, March 6th, 2015 –ModelSis took part today in a workshop staged by the Presidential Investment Council (CPI), in collaboration with the National Investment Management Agency (APIX) and the German cooperation agency (GIZ) at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Dakar, as part of trade facilitation on the Dakar-Bamako corridor.
The workshop that saw the participation of many stakeholders active on the corridor, provided the occasion to map out the consultation committees and platforms and discuss the most judicious way to ensure a proper articulation of actions on the ground.
For the record, GIZ assists Senegal and Mali in the enhancement of competitiveness of the Dakar-Bamako corridor, as part of a two-year project aimed at streamlining consultation platforms around the corridor, and with the view to strengthening the attractiveness of this route to the hinterland. In this regard, ModelSis has the mission to computerize transit operations on this corridor and integrate cargo tracking tools in the customs management system (GAINDE INTEGRAL).
During this meeting, ModelSis had a note-worthy participation in the high-level debates around three options expected to facilitate a proper execution of the project. These include the creation a Trade facilitation committee on the corridor, the revitalization of the Sub-Committee on the smoothness of operations on the corridor of CPI Work Group 1, and the establishment of a Sub-Committee on trade facilitation within the National council of road transport and transit facilitation on the Dakar-Bamako route (CNFT and TRIE).
In a bid to avoid the errors of the past and adopt a pragmatic approach, participants agreed on the revitalization of the Sub-Committee within the CPI Work Group 1, an option that offers guarantees of celerity and assurance in the making of decisions that will be imputed to the various administrative bodies concerned.
However, a special emphasis was laid on the analysis of the causes of the lack of efficiency of the said Sub-Committee, the aim being to make it more operational. A proposed composition thereof was made, in an inclusive dynamic to involve all stakeholders on the essence: making the corridor a prized passageway to Mali and beyond.
