The electronic transit management system is baptized TOTEM, which has the double significance of “Protector” of transit operations, but also represents the French acronym forTraitement des Opérations deTransit et d’Exportation de Marchandises.
TOTEM, also known as eTransit in Senegal came as a concrete expression of the customs agreement signed to the benefit of landlocked countries, with the view to reducing the countless checkpoints and physical inspections, and facilitating the movement of goods in transit until the country of final destination.
This application is interconnected to the customs management system (GAINDE Integral in Senegal) and to the Cargo Tracking System (SSE), and enables customs to monitor the movement of goods in transit alongside the corridor up to the final exit from the national territory. Thanks to the SSE component tracking the means of transport, any unexpected incident is reported to the control station that sends alerts to the competent services on the ground, for action.
